Kiwis abroad: A weekend wrap

Cormac Buchanan says he's leaving the French Grand Prix at Le Mans with a smile.

Competing in the latest round of the World Moto3 Championship, the Southlander was back in the points, scoring 14th.

"After two crashes it feels great to be back in the points again.

"The last two races I had lost my way a bit and it was important to get a base to build on again.

"Today for me my main goal was to finish without any dramas, with difficult track conditions on track it made it a bit sketchier than anticipated.

"We had another great start and jumped up 6 places on the first laps.

A few hairy moments on the track made me lose touch a bit with the group battling for the top 5, and I was almost yo-yoing back and forth to them.

"I had to work hard to get back within touching distance and then struck some grip issues late on.

"I had to reign myself back in and think of the bigger picture, an area that I lacked in the last races which caused me to crash when in a good position. I rode within myself and played it safe coming home in 14th which is a result that we are very happy with."

Cormac now moves on to the British round at Silverstone.

"There are still some fine details to improve, but we are doing a great job at ticking the boxes we set ourselves and focusing on the job and process.

"At Silverstone we will aim to build on this result and keep building experience.

In Northern Ireland, Whakatane's Mitch Rees completed his first outing on a British road course in his build-up to the Isle of Man TT later this month.

The Honda rider went P15 P13, P11 at the Northwest 200, a traditional warm-up to the TT.

His results came at the end of a difficult week, following the death of his mate Shane Richardson at Oulton Park.

"It's been  a tough week. I hope I did you proud mate and you enjoyed the ride #28," Mitch posted on social media.
