I’m Sam Guthrie 18 from Rolleston. I have been riding and racing motorbikes since I was 5 years old, I started out in mini mx and I loved the dirt. At age 10 I started training on a 150cc road race bike with Motorcycling Canterbury at Ruapuna. This set me in good stead to start racing when I turned 12 . At the time I was New Zealand’s youngest road racer.

I raced club level and had some great results . In 2019 trialed for an opportunity to race a Suzuki gixxer 150 up at the Suzuki international series at Taupo and Manfield. This was a great opportunity and I grasped it with 2 hands and managed a top 10 result on debut. I still compete at all Motorcycling Canterbury club rounds and have many series wins as well as winning the 250 production New Zealand Grand Prix title in 2022 That same year I moved up to the 300 supersport class and I won-my first local 300 supersport race and I was consistently running top 3.

Last season the new Zealand superbike championship comprised of 6 rounds over 5 months racing at tracks like Teretonga,Taupo ,Hampton downs, Manfield and Ruapuna. I came away with some great top 10 results and finished the championship 7th on my Yamaha YZF-R3. in a field ofhighly talented racers from all around New Zealand.This year I have entered the Pro twin class on a Yamaha MT07 . Last weekend at round 1 was a great weekend ending 4th overall . It’s a great bike and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve in levels this weekend by going even better .
